Mary Statues

As Jesus Christ’s mother and the most holy lady, the Madonna represents the symbol of purity and goodness. Mary statues and Virgin Mary Statues are universally popular as the mark of inspiration in people’s gardens and homes. The Virgin Mary statue and Michelangelo’s Pieta are perhaps the most famous of all Mary statues.

Pieta Statue

The Pieta was sculpted by Michelangelo in 1498-1499 and is a true masterpiece. It is made pieta statuefrom Carrara marble and it is now housed in Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy. It was commissioned by Cardinal Jean de Billheres. The statue shows the body of Jesus lying on his mother’s (Mary) lap, after the crucifixion. The statue blends the Renaissance ideas of classic beauty with naturalism. Michelangelo decided to sculpt a young Mary rather than an older woman. The base of the statue represents the rock of Golgotha. It is the only work that Michelangelo ever signed because he overheard some people talking who thought it was the work of another artist. So, consequently he carved his name on the sash that runs diagonally across Mary’s chest. Apparently he later regretted doing this.

Replicas – There are authorized full-scale replicas found throughout the world including; Australia, Brazil, Canada, U.S.A., Korea, Peru, Dominican Republic, and the Philippines.

The Michelangelo original is almost 6 feet tall and is sculpted from marble. The smaller reproduction you see on the right is made from cold cast resin and looks fantastic in my backyard. The early morning and evening light give the statue a beautiful soft glow. My parents were visiting me for dinner and after the meal my wife and I took them outside into the garden. I had not told them about my purchase of the Pieta statue. Upon seeing it as the fading evening light was touching on it and it was surrounded by ferns I was very moved. I turned to my Parents and they were just staring in disbelief, as it looked so beautiful. My Mom had a tear in her eye and my Dad was very quiet. Later they asked me if I could order one for them. They have their own statue now and they display it in their sitting room. You should get this!

Virgin Mary Statue

It is said she became the mother of Jesus through Divine Intervention. The angel Gabriel toldvirgin mary statue Mary that she had been chosen to be the mother of the Messiah. One of the most famous statues of Mary is the “Monument of the Holy Mother of God” in Haskovo, Bulgaria. The monument stands at 102 feet tall and the statue is 46 feet tall. The entire monument weighs in at 80,000 Kg and the statue itself weighs 20,000 Kg. It is constructed from polymer concrete and is the work of several sculptors. It was built on Yamacha hill and can be seen from the city even at night. Inside the pedestal is a chapel, the “Chapel of the Nativity of the Mother of God”.

The monument was unveiled in September 2003 and has become a major tourist destination. The entire project was paid for by printing 10,000 postcards and the entire proceeds were used for the construction. The Guinness Book of World Records has declared it the tallest statue of the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus in the world.

The Virgin Mary statue that you see on the right-hand-side is approximately 3 feet tall and the colors are quite vivid, and the details superb. Its a resin statue under a beautifully decorated sandstone finish. I have it outside in my rose garden at the end of a small paved path and She looks great. I’m really happy with how She looks in this setting and the colors seem even brighter surrounded by the roses.

holy family statues
The holy family statues are immensely popular and many go for life size versions of them. While life-size statues can be bit expensive, there is no denying that they leave an impact that figurines and other smaller statues cannot. If you have a smallish garden or backyard, these statues will fit the bill perfectly.
